so im back at this frustrating effing... argument between al gtx 970.

blahhh. i do plan to do dual SLI in the future

MY build

i7-4790k

corsair h105

gigabye z97x-gaming7

g.skills ripjaw x 2x6 1866/2133/2400 (one of those ,or dominator platinum)

evga 750w B2

so i heard...

g1 - bad in sli and really loud - but best performance

msi - middle groud - but annoying coil whine?

asus strix - quiet of all

my question is, since the fan dont run under heavy load, will that cause the strix to over heat? i mean it will

heat up while running games like LOL but the fans arent running?

which is the best GPU for me?

I would go with the strix. Passive fans are awesome! Don't worry, if the load gets high enough the fans will spin up. I think they start spinning beginning from 68 degrees celcius. I don't know much about SLI though. Reference designs would work best I guess. But a GPU is much more heat tolerable than most people give it credit for. It does not care if it is 60 degrees or 90 degrees. If it should get too hot, computer will shut down before any harm is done. Most of the time I set my GPU fan as slow as possible so temperature hovers around 90 degrees.

Cool temperatures are overrated, don't sweat it too much ;)

Correct me if I am wrong but the fans probably kick on at a certain temperature, not load %.

Recent games -- LoL, FO4, TESV, XCOM 2, Life is Strange, Overwatch, Ark, Total War Attila, Hearthstone.  <(^^,)>

Umm and g1 performance vs asus and msi aren't really that far by margin anyway right ? I mean they can't be plus 20 30 60. Prolly just like decimals right ?

Stock differences between the cards are 2-3 frames at best. The differences in clock speed don't matter because you only need to slide up one slider yourself in MSI afterburner way beyond the frequencies that any of the manufacturers offer ;) The 900 series are known to overclock to 1400-1500mhz quite easily, how awesome is that!

I have the 970 strix and just alawys run it at a 50% fan speed cause you cant hear it at all and there is coil whine but it has been getting less noticable over time.

Just so you know the EVGA 970s have the same exact "0db" feature as the Strix, for some odd reason they don't advertise it.........just thought I would throw that into the mix.

Current PC build: [CPU: Intel i7 8700k] [GPU: GTX 1070 Asus ROG Strix] [Ram: Corsair LPX 32GB 3000MHz] [Mobo: Asus Prime Z370-A] [SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB primary + Samsung 860 Evo 1TB secondary] [PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750w 80plus] [Monitors: Dual Dell Ultrasharp U2718Qs, 4k IPS] [Case: Fractal Design R5]

EVGA kicks on at 40c , i think the Strix does that as well.

The Strix cards fans kick in at 60c.

Although I set up a different fan curve on my 980 so it idles down at 36c instead of mid 50s.

CPU: i9-13900k MOBO: Asus Strix Z790-E RAM: 64GB GSkill  CPU Cooler: Corsair H170i

GPU: Asus Strix RTX-4090 Case: Fractal Torrent PSU: Corsair HX-1000i Storage: 2TB Samsung 990 Pro
