So I listen to music in my room at my computer desk because that is where all my music but my desktop speakers suck and my good speakers are old and having problems with the amplifier so I don't use them often, plus they are loud as hell and my neighbors don't exactly like them. I'm looking for a pair of speakers for my desk that will provide very good sound and that won't take up 90% of my desk. I haven't seen any good speakers for computers recently that i liked so i figured i'd ask and see if you guys know of any.

Just 2 channel I don't listen to music recorded in surround plus I know that with a good pair of speakers I won't need 5.1 2 channel if dine right can provide a great sound stage.

Define 90% of the desk, how much space do you have.

You can look at the AudioEngine A2+ or A5+ if it's 2.0 you want. A2+ has built-in amp + DAC, the A5+ just the amps.

I warn though, A5+ are loud as f*ck.

Not sure if you would be interested in studio monitors but take a look.

I do have space but I would rather not have it be taken up by just speakers. I'm not totally against large speakers on my desk but it's not preferred. Does the A2+ have a really good DAC and amp?

Mostly I just listen to music and game so sound accuracy isn't that important i'm not mixing music but I do want a pair of speakers that sound good and have good imaging.

The Mackie's would work for what you need but don't expect them to blow your roof off or anything.

I forgot to ask you what's your budget?

Ample for the respective speakers. Just don't plug anything other than the "slave/passive" unit to the active unit.

As for the DAC, i think it's either the D3 or D1 board (though that is me guessing). And you can always just circumvent it by using the analog inputs.

Prefiably as cheap as possible but if the price has to be around 200+ I can go that high.

Try the micca mb42+lepai amp..the speakers produce 75 watts from each channel and are remarkably small for their price, make sure you buy a 12 v 5a power supply for lepai amp for best performance..

I bought a pair of Emotiva Airmotiv 4 from a buddy for about $250 a while back and love them.  If you can find a pair used, they're a fantastic speaker.  For a little more money there is an updated version of the Airmotiv 4s for $284 that are brand new.  You can also get them through Amazon.  The ribbon tweeter is brilliant and very detailed.  If you can spring for them, I highly recommend it.

Speakers don't produce watts, they receive. 2x15w in this case, from the Lepai.

The 'wattage' or 'power handling' they have is an indication how much power they thermally can handle.
