VPN question

Nem

I have a vpn server set up on my NAS to extend the LAN to my laptop when Im away from home

The network share contains multiple GBs of files. If I map this share on my vpn client (laptop), how much bandwidth will actually be used up?

Will it send to me ALL of the files on the share straight away (ie using up multiple GBs of bandwidth on both the server and client side)? Or will the file only get sent if I directly open the file on my laptop even if I browse around in the share?

It only sends the files you're requesting. That is, the ones you're opening. But it will be sending folder and file information(obviously), but not the file itself.
