Random shut down without warning

Hello good folk of the LTT community!

 

So my friend's PC is having an issue with random shutdowns. One moment he is gaming (League of legends for example) then without warning his pc shuts down without a windows shutting down screen or anything and without error reports. To try and diagnose the problem I've tried the following (Note, can only help at range via teamviewer at the moment):

 

- Crystaldiskinfo for disk health, came out good

- HDTune for bad sectors, came out 100% healthy

- Valley for GPU stressing (1 hour, overvolted by 13mV for some potential stability)

- Stressing CPU in Aida64 (15 minutes, no shut down, temps maxed out around 72-75C)

 

Things I'm planning to do:

 

- Stress system memory in Aida64

- Stress Local Disks in Aida64

- Stress GPU in Aida64

- Memtest86 when I visit him

 

My suspicions point towards the PSU since that is usually the culprit when it comes to random shutdowns without error logs/shutdown screen. However I have a few doubts

 

Memtest86 vs Aida64 memory stress? Which one is better?

Is stress local disks really necessary?

Is stress GPU really necessary?

 

Also if the rest of the system is fine it's the PSU right? I'm pretty sure but I want confirmation.

Update:

Did Memory stress test for 15 minutes, no shut down

Did local disk stress test for 15 minutes, no shut down

Stressed GPU with both Aida64 and valley for 15 minutes each, no shut down

 

Overvolted GTX 570 from 975mV (stock) to 1000mV.

 

I'm pretty sure by now his PSU is buggered. Only thing left is to do Memtest86 when I'm at his house next time. If it passes that it's most likely the PSU right?

 

Edit: Oh just remembered, got a spare PSU to test with.

Maybe try to re install windows, if that's possible.

This is not preferred as his internet is not the fastest
