Got my new case, would this layout be the correct way to go about it?

I switched the kraken fans around to blow into the case rather than out because I want to hide them for now (They dont match my Corsair fans).

Dont know the restriction but if its like the H440 then ye SP will be perfect otherwise go for airflow. And will have Positive pressure as well

Why SP fans for airflow?

Sp are used in cases that have restricted source of air such as the H440 so the SP will perform better (dont know how much restriction this case has)

Find me a sexier black and white fan.

Plus the 3 on the front are LED white for front viewing pleasure.

EDIT: I haven't bought the fans yet...they're sitting in my Prime shopping cart now..

Did you know they also have AF LED fans? These are better for airflow, SP is made for radiators.

Depends on the cooling for the gpu. I use front intake and rear and top exhaust with an h100i.

I think I'm going to get 3x AF120 LEDs for the front, 1x AF140 for the back, and 2x SP140 for the rad (still pushing air inside the case).

How's that?

EDIT: I have a single 970 Windforce that will eventually be an SLI. Will I be forced to turn the fans around on the Kraken and make the top be exhaust?

Depends on what that card runs like. You are pushing hot cpu air into the case and that card is dumping hot air. With only one 140 to push everything out.

Good point, I'll leave as is now and check the temps at 100% load then adjust if need be.

Af fans loose performance drastically when any sort of obstruction is put infront of them. I have the same case and found that x3 sp 120mm fans as front intake with the rear 140mm as extraction and x2 sp 120mm pushing air through the top mounted radiator and out of the case is the best configuration. If your running 970's they are relatively cool running gpu's so you shouldn't have any problems there.

Running my sli open air setup would cook everything else. I'm glad I have a saber tooth board. All that hot air would heat up my h100. Had to put my blower style coolers back ok my gpu's. You might be good with one card. Depends on the cpu loads.

Those top fans should be exhausting. Then again, I have a ridiculous amount of fans in my air 540, up to 9 now after I added a 140 on a bracket to the back of my front 120's to push more air up under the graphics cards.

9? Holy molly. I don't need that much, plus my case is right next to a window that leaks cold air  :P

I just got this case and am about to start my new build soon as well. I have been advised by several people that the best set up for air 540 was to have your radiator on the front as an intake and have both top vent and back as exhaust and yeah I got AF LED corsair fans for airflow and the new sexy noctua black fans for my radiator :D

I always forget that some of the 540's didn't come with the led fans.

Yeah pretty much but you want them 2 top fans exhausting out not blowing in.

  • 2 weeks later...

You can switch the side the fans are on the radiator...

You can have the radiator exhaust with the fans hidden

I have 3 front intake then everything else exhaust. With the recent over clock on my cpu I wouldn't want my top fans as intake.

But when I had open air coolers on my cards, the case would heat up so much and cause my cpu temp to increase.

You may be fine with on card, especially seeing in how cool they are supposed to run.

I say flip them around and benchmark both ways and see which is cooler. Hard to tell not seeing load temps and with those fans.

Then you better change the top fans to the sexy black noctuas and send the vomit tan to someone who needs it *me* *wink wink* :)

I got three of them for 30 bucks. Used it a trial to see if they are worth it. With the side panel on, you cant see them. Trust me, I've contemplated it a lot. Might get 4 for a push pull.
