I have an i5 4670k with the stock cooler on it at the moment however I am looking to overclock it in the near future. Would something like the Hyper 212 Evo be fine or would I want something more expensive or maybe even a pre filled liquid cooler.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

212 is really good in price/perfomance ratio. I've clocked 4790K to 4.7GHz, 1.29V with it, max temps in OCCT staying under 85C which was my stopping point. Its impossible to say how much larger cooler like Dark Rock or some Noctua would affect on that. It depends more on CPU. Sure, you can get lower temps with water or bigger air coolers. But if you are on budget, 212 is best choice.

If you want a budget cooler, you can't go wrong with the BeQuiet pure rock, it's the same price as the 212 but is newer and is likely to be better performing. If you want a larger cooler, the Noctua NH-U14S or BeQuiet dark rock 3 is the best choice, and if you want the best air cooling performance the Noctua NH-D14/15 is top dog, along with the Cryorig R1 ultimate.
