Hi Guys,

I've had my system for a just over a year now, and one thing that has always caught my attention is that my GTX 690 has always had LOW and CONSTANT DIPPING GPU USAGE, and its a real pain, considering the power of the card. there is one or two games that use both to nearly 99-100% of each but that's not good enough

90% of the games i play, crysis 3, metro, metro last light, borderlands, sniper elite v2, cod advanced warfare, wolfenstien new order, Alien isolation, Alan wake ect all have low gpu utilization. VSYNC is always off gaming on a benq 144hz 1920 x 1080 monitor, even when the games get realy intense the usage drops (WHY) shouldnt it be increasing the usage not decreasing?

Is my card defective? My 4770k is over-clocked to 4.3ghz, 16gb memory, 860w power supply, ive got fairly high end components and yet im still getting poor performance

Has anyone else had these issues? Was there a way to fix them?

Can someone please help it would be much appreciated

Thanks

Do a complete driver wipe and reinstall clean drivers and you can try to reseat the card or try it in a Different PCI-E x16 slot.

We have a similar setup and honestly some games just won't do 99% scaling... but I do get 99% scaling in Crysis 3 and my CPU's only at 3.5GHz, so you should technically be getting better scaling. So try some of the fixes people say here.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Scratchy1215, yes the fps does drop when the usage drops, the cpu is fluctuating in usage as-well,  the temperature ranges from 80-86 degres Celsius, the 690 runs at a about 81 degres celsius,

Kingcry ill give that a go and see if it helps

D2ultima ive got something wrong somewhere

Thanks for help guys :)

Windows updates? Motherboard BIOS updates? Is SLI turned on in performance mode? Try setting "prefer maximum performance" in 3D settings for the games?

I moved the 690 from the pcie x 16 to pcie x 8 and surprisingly im getting better usage and frame rates.

Having said that crysis is now using 90-98% of both gpu's but in some of my games like metro last light, borderlands, cod advanced warfare sli just doesn't scale very well, im guessing its the game and not the hardware if im getting nearly full potential out of the card in about half of my games??

but ive managed to get about half of my games to utilize 95% of each gpu.

One thing i cant see in nvidia control panel is SLI RENDERING MODE! even when it was in the pcie x 16 i couldn't see it

How do you not see it. What. That's like the thing that SHOULD be there. Always. What.

Also, 90%+ of usage in most games is normal. Borderlands will never reach that. CoD: AW will give you framedrops under 90 (but not under 60) with low util before it uses more of your GPUs. Game's coded bad. Never played Metro Last Light; only 2033. If you force BF4 to 4K res (200% resolution scale) it'll devour them GPUs at 99% for breakfast. Another game that'll use them easily is Black Ops 2 if you max the game then set the framerates to unlimited. Many new games, especially AAA ones, are either SUPER unoptimized or pretty much coded for a certain max FPS (like how The Evil Within would get 30fps on like a 560Ti but can't get 60fps on a 980, or how AW will keep you above 60fps on a single 680 but it'll never keep 90 constant in MP on two 680s, etc) and everything above is just extra. Or games like Evolve that won't crack 60 no matter what you do, etc.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

This is a general problems with higher gpu´s.

How to fix: Disable steamoverlay in every non steam game, MSI afterburner DISABLED. No apps running in the background.

Desktop *rightklick*-> Nvidia control center ->3D settings ->Global settings -> search for "Shadercache" set it to "DISABLE"->search for "maximal limit of prerendered images" set it to "1". If you have cpu hungry games, you can specify that game in the nvidia control panel right to the global settings tab and search your game.

BTW: Overclocking will make the stuttering worse!
