1. only use active adapters. passive won't work with eyefinity.

2. thats called thunderbolt ;) but you can only use displayport with, well, displays. the controller chip is diffrent.

I need your help guys. I've been using my computer connected to the monitor via DVI for a long time now, but i want to connect them trough display port because i want to run my ps3 to the monitor as well( with a HDMI-DVI adaptor[dont worry about the audio]). The problem is when i connect the monitor with the video card via DP it randomly "blinks", i mean the screen goes black for a split second then back to normal again. I installed the latest catalyst drivers(AMD Vision engine control center), but it didn't help. The monitor is a Dell U2312HM and the graphics card is an MSI R5670 CYCLONE 1G

So to be clear, your set up is:

Computer to monitor with DVI

PS3 to monitor with HDMI to DVI adapter.

Where is the display port?

Computer through DVI working, computer through Display port: not working (random blinks). (I need to free up the monitors DVI port for the ps3.)

All right, so you have one input on your monitor coming from your PS3(HDMI ->DVI), and one coming from your GPU (DP)? Is the monitor DP? Is your GPU DP? or are you using an adapter?

Either way, make sure you are not overclocking, and the in Catalyst Control Centre you have Over Drive disabled.

Ok, i disabled over drive, but still flickers. I wrote what graphics card and monitor i am using, they both have Displayport, and I want to connect them with a simple (DP-DP) cable.

I'm suspecting that either the monitor or the cable is wrong, because i tried something in the mornng. I went crazy on the adaptors! I've put a DP to HDMI adaptor at DP output on the graphics card, and connected the HDMI to DVI adaptor to the end of the DP to HDMI adaptor. Then ran the dvi cable to the monitor. The funny thing is there was no flickering.

After further research it seems it might be be cable. I know that digital cables only work or they don't, but it would seem possible that it changes.

Does your GPU not have both a DVI and HDMI port as well? If possible I would use one of those. Here is what I see as your GPU: http://ca.msi.com/product/vga/R5670-Cyclone-1G.html

Yes my card has DVI, HDMI, and DP outputs, but the monitor has a VGA, a DVI and a DP. Connecting them via DVI works, but i want to connect the ps3 to the monitors DVI port, so the DP is left for the computer.

Any ideas how to test the cable? Should i test the connectors for faulty lanes? (No one uses DP around here everybody has a DVI to VGA setup.)

I don't know how you could test the cable other than with another computer.

You could try using the HDMI DP adapter on the monitor, and using a HDMI cable to your GPU. Or you could use VGA? DVI to VGA adapters are cheap.

I tried the adaptor backwards but its an active one, and does not make DP from HDMI(and i also borowed it). I dont want to use vga (unless I have to) because I get grey lines moving upwards.

I rewatched Linus' video about display interfaces

. He mentioned about long DVI cables something like"if you get black screens once in a while you're propably borderlined." Do you know what he means by that? Because I think I have a similar situation. The cable is 1,8m but might be bad quality, it's very thick though. (and wasn't cheap at all)

I don't know a ton about video cables but a faulty cable might be the problem. If possible, I would replace it, maybe with a shorter one.

A shorter one is not really an option, because I need 1,6m at least.

Thanks a lot for your help I'll buy a new cable next week.

I know this wasn't a week but i finally got another DP cable. I replaced the old one, but the screen still blinks sometimes, it did'n helped anything. I suppose the only thing left is to bring the monitor to a service.
