help upgrading CPU.

Go to solution Solved by Decon,

I want to grab a new CPU on cyber monday. I'm aiming for this one. Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

but my current motherboard is this one. Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H ATX LGA1150

Will the CPU I want still work in that board even though it doesn't support overclocking and the CPU I want is a K series?

Sure, just don't OC it until you get a Z board

I plan to upgrade my motherboard eventually to a board that will support overclocking but doesn't want to at the moment.

is that something I can do before I switch CPU's?

You HAVE to do it before switching CPUs*.

Out of curiosity, what is your current CPU?

core i3 4330

Thats still a very good CPU. Of course an i5 is an upgrade, but what kind of tasks are you doing that you are getting unsatisfactory performance in?

What GPU is paired with it?
