hi folks

I'm looking for recommendations on some backup software. I have folders on my desktop that I would like to automatically, periodically back up to my NAS.

The software must be able to do the following:

1. Incremental backups

2. schedule backups for certain days/times

3. Keeps "versions", or allow me to control how many incremental versions are kept before they are deleted

4. Some form of compression on the backup as the folders are pretty large

5. Transfer via FTP

6. The most important criteria: the software must NOT involve itself in the computers boot process. For example, some software will install their own boot loaders for image recovery. Imaging/cloning software tends to reserve some disk space so recovery of the primary drive can happen etc. An example of this is Acronis True Image. I cannot use this for the reasons mentioned.

There's something about my setup (whether it be X99, or some combination of parts) that causes the computer to not behave properly during shutdown/restarts if those type of software are installed. It's a weird problem, but I narrowed it down to imaging software after a few weeks of trying to figure it out. And in some programs, even if I don't turn on the boot related stuff, the power problems still persist (e.g. EaseUS has a preOS option, but even if you don't use it I have problems)

So, any suggestions?

StorageCraft ShadowProtect desktop ($100 USD) + imagemanager you may want to look into. recovery is separate as an iso file, dvd/usb to boot it.

This is based off enterprise software for servers, so not for the beginners and learning curve is involved to get all the features you are looking for.

Note: I used this at work, so I have a bias towards this.
