If you are rendering all the time then yes but if you only do occasional rendering then save the money and go with the Core i5-4690K. It is still a potent CPU.

I use it about 35-40% of the time. So still not really sure.

Even if you went for the Core i5-4690K, the Core i7 would be better but the Core i5 wouldn't be useless mate

Since the I5 4690K [$209.99]and the I7 4790K [299.99] is about 90 dollar difference, is it really worth it?

http://ark.intel.com/compare/80807,80811

I also do editing/rendering and gaming.

my suggestion might surprise you but bare with me, you could save a portion of that 90$ by going with an H97 motherboard instead of a more expensive

Z97 and letting go the overclocking motherboard and perhaps the CPU cooler (if you planned to buy one)

why do i say that? pairing an overclocking ready CPU with a non overclocking motherboard doesnt make sense?

well...because the i7-4790K run's at 4.4GHZ out of the box and with an H97 board you can lock that speed across all 8 threads, you don't really need to overclock it any further...these i7's are binned to run at such frequencies out of the box

but most of them won't break 4.6ghz anyways...here's just to illustrate my point, prices might be irrelevant for you personaly, you might find other cheaper H97 boards in your area as well but it's just an idea:

see what i'm talking about...if i was short on cash i'd much rather have the i7 kit and consider the CPU cooler as a future upgrade...the 4790K comes with the copper core intel heatsink it's good to go as is.
