I was wondering if I should get the 1500$ alienware 17 or do a custom build? My mom really needs a pc so I would like to get the Alienware because I absolutely NEED a labtop and with the 17 I could give her the PC i have now. Thanks for you guys support on this awesome forum.

If your MOM needs a PC, why does she need an alienware?

Is she a gamer?

*Sigh* The Alienware would be mine... I would give her my old one.

If your budget is something like $1500, I would get a $500 laptop with a $1000 desktop.

Build your own PC for gaming.

Alienware is not worth the premium.

alienware gets a bad rap, but i seen a review on this fourm of one. and god it was beautiful. some of the cases are tacky, but its powerful. yeah it comes at a price, but if you have the money, go for it.

if you want raw performance and dont need portability, custom pc. if your worried about the difficulty of building one, its easy. like, you could not know what a hard drive is, and you would be fine. as long as you can watch a video, and plug parts literally only where they fit, you should be fine.

I would not suggest going with alienware, they are overpriced, and not very high quality.

The Lenovo Y50 is a pretty decent choice, there are many options, I'd suggest sticking with something from Asus, Lenovo, or Gigabyte.

Alienware's computers are quite overpriced compared to other options, and the build quality tends to be pretty shitty and mainly plastic.

One of my friends has an Alienware M14x r2, whenever he presses/hits the keyboard just a little too hard the entire thing shuts off, and the construction of it seems to be entirely plastic.

ouch really? my friend has a msi laptop, and there was a world of airplanes promotional hummer, decked out with razer blades that i got to play with, but that was all my experience of gaming laptops.my friend has a macbook pro, so. thats my 3 experiences with things other than my crap plastic laptop. I always been a custom PC, towers for life.

Id always go with a pc. but I have a cheap I3 laptop that does everything essential, that i would need. only thing it cant do is game. and that is never essential. so.

I would not recommend buying alienware or razor, get a lenovo. I have a friend who has a razor computer and it was complete crap, its all plastic construction to the mouse pad and keyboard feeling cheap.

Lol I would get Lenovo, Asus, or Gigabyte. But  my grandma had some HHGregg gift card for like 2000$ and she never used it. So im getting it from HHGregg. So I cannot build a PC for 1500$. Kinda hard to explain but its either Alienware or custom. And I really want something portable. Also I think its very cool looking.
