Can somebody please point me in the right direction for an overclocking guide for my i5 2500k?

I've been putting it off because im a sissy like that and dont want to break anything. Im like that.

With more and more CPU intensive games coming out as of late, I think it would good to start learning how to OC properly on this CPU, then move up a notch when Skylake hits the market.

CPU: Intel i5 2500k @4.2Ghz Cooling: Be Quiet! Silent Loop 120mm MB: MSI Z77A-G45 GPU: Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X OC RAM: 8Gb G.Skill Ripjaw @ 1600mhz

Storage 1:Samsung 840 120gb SSD Storage 2: Seagate Barracuda 2Tb HDD PSU:Corsair CX 750W  Case: Corsair Carbide 400R.

put the multiplier higher by 1 until it fails prime 95 then add .025 volts until table and rinse and repeate

unstable is crashes or errors or bsod

Not prime95, the latest updates can launch your voltage to death voltage levels. OCCT or Aida64 are much better

This is reminding me once again to overclock my i5 2500k again.  I added an aftermarket HSF after years of not taking care of this and I tried overclocking it one day in recent months but was not interested in dealing with the trouble I was having after overclocking an AMD FX 6300 so easily in the same day.  Thanks OP for this reminder to get this overclock finally done.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

What the heck?  I used Prime 95 to test my AMD FX 6300 OC not long ago for 24 hours and no death to my cpu.  Which updates changed things?  When did these updates come out that are you talking that did this?

I could be wrong but I believe the newest versions of Prime95 can do this.
