Help choosing motherboard...

Go to solution Solved by Rovert19,

Greetings folks,

so, it has come down to this... I am looking into upgrading my rig (specs in sig) - mainly the mobo and CPU. In a week or so, a new case will arrive (black & white H440) + white sleeved modular PSU cables - as you can guess, I am going for a black & white themed build. (duh)

And I want you opinion/recommendations on a new mobo + CPU. I wont be doing heavy OC-ing, tho. Maybe just a little.

As for the CPU, I think the i5-4690K will be enough and I would like a nice mobo to seat this beauty. So, would an ASUS Z97-AR be enough? Or do you recommend something different, and why? Plus, it HAS to Support SLI, cuz of my twin-GTX760 :)

On a side note, the mobo should be black, black/white so the colours wont clash with the theme :D

Thanks for your answers

I've been reading reviews about the Krait and unfortunately, while it performs admirably on benchmarks and OC, apparently it suffers during gaming and real world applications

Aww, come on.... You had to do this, really? :D Well, I dont do much intensive gaming, as in BF4, COD:AW etc. right now I just play a lot of Diablo 3 and Borderlands, but thanks for the info, will take that into consideration, but this mobo could still be my pick :)

Dude, based off the review i just read, i honestly whole heartedly wouldnt buy that mobo. Looks while somewhat important dont mean anything when it comes to the performance of your pc. You have a white and black case and just about any color available will complement that case just fine. If your heart is set and determined on a white and black mobo, then i would have to suggest the new limited edition asus sabertooth.

Well, looks is kinda what I am after, and putting a red or blue mobo in a black & white case would be kinda unaesthetic... kinda dumb, but thats just me. But yeah, I am still searching...

Built in benchmark or actually playing?

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. The True Path of the Feathered One. ~ Dimboble-dubabob III

Well...I think I am still going for the Krait, even with those benchmarking results. Just to say, it shows tests at 1440p gaming and I "only" have a 1080p monitor/tv so that will make a difference also... And just because one game out of three in testing shows lower fps doesnt mean all games will perform badly, just my thougts :-)

yo I'm going for a black and white build as well, I picked up a GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK

It's pure black with gold highlights, so it hides itself away fairly well

This is what it looks like

Looks nice, even without a case :D Btw, I found a store which has the Krait mobo, it is in UK and they ship within 3-4 days to slovakia via courier, so YAY for me! :) But unfortunately, I had to RMA my H110, the backplate is kinda f*ked up, the nuts are loose in the plastic  And Corsair didnt tell me if I Need to send just the backplate or the whole cooler, so I am still waiting for a response, but either way, I will be without a CPU cooler for a week at best, since I dont have a temporary spare cooler handy...
