Hi,

this is important enough for me to write my first post on this forum.

I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and wanted to give something back to you guys. So I smugly click the link to your donation page and read the goals while smiling in anticipation. But when I decided to actually donate, things started going downhill.

Why can't I choose the amount I want to donate? Oh well, I thought, the amounts they allow will kinda work for most people, so that's okay. Alright, add 25$ to the cart, click 'view cart', check that there is definetely just one item in the cart and then click 'checkout'. Whats next? ... Billing information! First you force me to go through page after page of checkout dialogs and then you expect me to give you my address information! Even the phone number is mandatory. Thats just great. Alright, just to check out what comes next, I put 'test' in all fields and click 'continue'. Here we go, confirmation step! But wait, I haven't even chosen my payment method yet... I heard you mention PayPal during the WAN-show, but I see no logos or any other indication of paypal anywhere... And I don't really want to sign an arbitrary contract with you guys and give you my address. So I have to give up! Now not only have I not donated anything, but I'm also slightly pissed! Your checkout system is older than the universe and is far from at par with the quality of your videos.

But thats not even the point I'm trying to make. C'mon, you're a tech-company, add Bitcoin support already! I would have expected simply a bitcoin address with a QR-code that I can transfer some BTC to instantly and with reasonable anonymity.

Sorry for barging in here with only criticism in my first post, I still love you guys! (Just not quite as much anymore. )

Philon

tl;dr: Please add a Bitcoin-Address to your donation page!

Bitcoin support is a risky business that could simply fail at any moment. It's a stupid idea, and you of all people should know that. So I'm just not going to even mention it anymore.

Shut up whining. I'm sure that you weren't this worried about Paypal having you email address, phone number and street address, not to mention all the other huge-ass companies you've probably used paypal for (yeah, they all get that stuff)

Why are you worried about seven or eight Canadian dudes in a house making videos about computers having your address more than you are worried about, oh, I don't know, eBay having it? What are they going to do, ask Intel to sponsor a trip to your noble self and drive-by shoot your house with ChannelSuperFun water pistols and potato pop-guns? Is Linus going to dig a hold to Ubisoft in your backyard? How conceited of you. If you want to contribute, go through the damn procedure, the same as the rest of us have to and stop complaining about little inconveniences like this. And if in the end you don't feel like it, just come onto this forum and participate, because the crew themselves have said that just watching their videos, being subscribed to their channel, following them on twitter and watching their twitch feeds is just as meaningful contribution as donating money for a shirt or donating to a fundraiser. Good grief, If the world were run by people like you who are offended by this sort of trivial thing, we would live in an aristocratic gridlock of Victorian proportions...

Oh, wait...

"Bitcoin support is a risky business that could simply fail at any moment. It's a stupid idea..."

What makes you say bitcoin could fail at any moment? Thats quite a bold statement and billions of dollars worth of investments show that many would disagree with you on that one.

"Why are you worried about seven or eight Canadian dudes in a house..."

Its not about that, I'd trust them with my info, sure, but this is matter of principle. I live in europe, it would be ridiculous to send a letter to my house. So they don't need my address. There are better ways to transfer money, bitcoin is faster, easier, safer and cheaper for both parties involved. Especially because LTT is a cutting-edge-awesome-technology-checkoutthesefeatures-style channel I'm kinda dissapointed to have to deal with their stonehenge of a store.

Bold, possibly. Invalid, absolutely not. Anyone who follows Bitcoin for any amount of time will know just how volatile it is. Bitcoin has fluctuated in worth by hundreds and hundreds of dollars even in the past year and can halve in value within a day. It's simply not stable enough to justify using as a currency for what I'm sure you are aware is a very small, high-maintenance, low-return company. LMG simply doesn't have the resources or the financial security to risk using Bitcoin. Cryptocurrencies are cool, granted, but as a method of payment they are too unstable. And it's pretty insecure. Look at how many bitcoins were lost in Mt. Gox. That was a disaster. There's no insurance company on earth that will insure bitcoin anymore because of the risk involved. and it costs more to create new bitcoins now than the bitcoins are worth. I don't think you realize how much gambling goes into these crytocurrencies. I tried it once and i was lucky that I got out when I did.

Fair enough, it's an old system, but they would have all your details anyway even if they used paypal. it's a redundancy thing. Apple Pay and Google Wallet will be fully functional... sometime... perhaps LTT will use that (seeing as it uses actual money) when it comes out. You could try asking them if they'll implement it, but in any case we both know that anyone who has ever had to pay for something online has to go through this lengthy procedure at one point or another. It's the same on Amazon! It's not just you and to be honest it's getting a bit blown out of proportion. It's a first-world problem. Suck it up and get on with it. It'll take you a few minutes at most and then you can spend time looking forward to getting your Tshirt or whatever, and if it matters that much to you that principles of personal details be defended (even though every government and company on planet earth already has it), then don't buy the shirt, don't donate to LMG! you can contribute in other ways on this forum, ways that don't involve whining about the payment method!

@Philon, it's normal prodecure to ask address and even phone number in any online store transaction. PayPal doesn't release that information to store/customer. If they would, every idiot with Donation button would get those. So stores need that information for legal reasons. They need it to verify billing in case of problems or for contacting user, maybe after they have closed forum account, email etc. So basicly I don't see point of your complain here.

As for custom amount. It has already said to be coming as soon as they get the whole system working properly.

And as for Bitcoin. @LinusTech has said that it is better for them that you do the conversion from BC to dollars etc. rather than them.
