So I alost have my PC finished now and its time for cooling solutions.

Overclocking. My biggest fears are, that it will void my warranty and/or degrade my hardware. What are the risks and benefits? I am a gamer and overclocking a GPU makes sense, but how much of a performance increase could I really get for gaming and casual computer use by overclocking the processor?

So lets say I want to OC my CPU. What cooler should I choose? Water cooling? Noise doesn't really matter for me and I am neither going to OC serously, just a little, something like 4.0 GHz or a little more. I have a budget of maximum $50. How much is it even worth spending for a cooler for me? Can you recommend some coolers please? This time it can be from a USA store, since my friend can bring it from New York (for example: NCIX US, Neweg...)

Overclocking in general does give performance boost but it will depend on games and software how big that is. I myself use overclocking to increase CPU lifespan. So I will do it more when my CPU gets near to upgrade time.

Yes, overclocking will void warranty. But if you do everything right and problems aren't because of you frying your chip by overclocking, then you can still RMA it and expect refund/new part. Basic overclocking will reduce lifespan of chip but you most likely are upgrading before noticing it. We are talking about 15 years of life shortening to 10 years or smthg. Only if you are running it on high voltages and/or temps, it will get there sooner.

With just $50 you should definetly get 212 EVO from CoolerMaster. Its really good cooler and can achieve nice little overclocks. Like 300MHz on 4790K (4.7GHz) I did back in summer. Air cooling is cheap and quiet, AIOs are bit more expensive and generally better than cheap air coolers. High end air coolers like D15 match high end AIOs. Custom loop is the best solution in every way but you'll have to pay much more to get there.

Thank you for your help. My CPU is a 4690K. How does lifespan work? What do you mean by that?

Thank you for your help, but can you please help me a little bit more?

What is RMA?

if you are concerned about the  warranty

get this its 20 to 35 bucks depending on the chip

http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/

and if by some freak of nature you manage to damage the cpu intel will replace it no questions asked

you can even register after damage has occurred but you need to wait 30 days for a replacement

RMA stands for return merchandise authorization

Just a fancy name for returning it for a replacement

cpu life span is never really a issue unless you are pushing extremes

I would go for a better cooler then the hyper212

Lifespan is same is lifetime of chip. It depends per chip but we are talking about things lasting over 20 years with normal use. So dropping that lifetime to 10 years isn't such big deal for someone into computers.

As @Legitsu explained, RMA is general term for returning under warranty. Depending on company it can be done via shop or straight to manufacturer. Their experts check whats wrong and if its happened because of user or because of manufacturing failure. Latter results new chip or refund.

Newegg sometimes sell used H100 for $49.99

Well thank you for your help. I am no longer worried about overclocking.

I will check all the stores in USA and see what coolers I find. I might ask you for a help when choosing a cooler later, but I'm good for now.

Thank you awesome people!
