Okay so I am very new to overclocking. I just overclocked my 4790k to 4.7 with a 1.25 voltage.

Here are my specs.

CPU: i7 4790k

Mobo: Gigabyte z97x gaming 5

RAM: 16gb @ 1600

GPU: Gigabyte g1 gtx 980

PSU: Corsair HX750

CPU Cooler: Thermaltake water 3.0 ultimate with STOCK fans.

I am planning to buy new fans asap to replace my radiator fans and case fans. My fans are NOT at full speed. I am also using stock Thermal compound and I currently have Some new Arctic MX4 thermal compound which I got today which i will apply this weekend.

Here is a pic http://i.gyazo.com/fb0295ca3faea48f6b391900869569d0.png of the temps and stuff.

The temps are a bit high because my room has been warmer the past few days. It's normally a lot cooler.

My questions are.

Is this OKAY for my first attempt?

What are good programs for benchmarking a overclock? I currently use AIDA64 because I *heard* prime95 over volts your CPU? I don't know if that is true.

Thank you.

67ºc in Aida64 is perfectly fine. Anything under 80ºc is good.

@Abuser

Dude.  Excellent results!  Those temperatures are very good, and 4.7Ghz @ 1.25v is way above average!  Congratulations!

Prime95 is perfectly fine to use, you just have to set your voltage to manual/constant/override/static before running any tests.  Its a good idea to do this before any stress test, not just P95.

Play some BF4 and/or Crysis3.  Those are some excellent games to get a feel of if your OC is stable or not.  Also CinebenchR15 running it back to back to back 5+ times in a row.

4.7GHz @1.25V is very nice. try higher until you hit 80C~ or until you hit the safe 24/7 voltage which is about 1.35V.

Yeah, thats a great oc. And like everyone else i say keep going, I can only run 4.7GHz if im at like 1.35(something).

*Edit: As far as stress testing programs, i use LinX. Its not 100% accurate but it doesnt take any time at all to use and once you find the lowest voltage itll pass i just raise it by .002-.003 and ive never had any problems.
