Ok so im going to be selling my current rig (in my signature) or atleast planning to and build something a little bit cheeper and have some extra cash leftover for school and stuff, this is the proposed build

i5 3570k planning to overclock and cool with an nh-d14

asus sabertooth z77

8gb corsair vengeance pro @1600mhz

3tb seagate barracuda hd and maybe a small ssd for boot driver, undecided if i care enough to spend the extra cash

2 gigabyte 770 4gb windforce cards in sli

corsair carbide 500r white

i was thinking somewhere in the 800 watt range for the psu, something like a gs800 v2 seems perfect :) im also going to list an alternate build that im considering but im not sure of just yet, its similar

with that build it puts me just over $2000 before tax using my local store memory express, i prefer to use this local shop as i hate ordering online

i7 4770k planning to overclock and cool with an nh-d14 or h100i

asus sabertooth z87

8gb corsair vengeance pro @1600mhz

3tb seagate barracuda hd's and maybe a small ssd for boot driver, undecided if i care enough to spend the extra cash

1 evga gtx 780 with reference cooler

corsair carbide 500r white

this option puts me just above $1800, if i go this route ill be buying a samsung 840 pro ssd for boot probably

i have also been considering an amd build basically the same just an fx 8350 on a crosshair v formula and cool it with an h100i and overclock it as much as i can, this system will be used soley for gaming as i have another system that is used for video editing and whatnot thats actually built for it. any help and suggestions would be great as im kinda having trouble deciding what route to go

A 650W PSU would be enough for even two GTX 770/780s.

thats what i figured as long as its a good quality psu, im just undecided what build route to go still, and i like psu headroom cause i like to overclock my gpu as well as cpu

From my point of view, it's a downgrade, and you'll spend more money, you are better off with what you have, putting it under water if you wana upgrade.

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v

It's still enough even with overclocking considered. You still have headroom with it, it wouldn't be maxing out its wattage at that point.

I beg to differ, I think a 750w would be the safe route to go.

What makes you think 650W isn't enough?

Just a 650 for 2 780s? that is a little small seeing as how each card has been rated for 250w so thats 500w total and thinking that the rest of the build will take 75w that is really close to over the allotted wattage I just think that 750w would be safe and ready for if he want a upgrade or what not and if he is overclocking which he should be thats more wattage, i think a 750w would be safe, its not overkill and its ready for upgrades.

its not an upgrade, its a purposeful downgrade, not to mention sli 4gb 770's will keep up with a 690 just has twice the vram so technically it could be seen as an upgrade and im aiming to save the leftover money from selling my current rig to put towards school

It's still enough even with overclocking considered. You still have headroom with it, it wouldn't be maxing out its wattage at that point.

though im sure its enough with overclocking since my current system suck 578 from the wall both gpu's and cpu overclocked ill probably go with a 750 watt for peace of mind

As for the money, after selling that, i doubt you will get more money that you'll need to spend, plus that 2 cards output more heat, noise and power consumption, compared to a 690, which is made of 2 crippled 680, a bit under a 770.
