FX 8320 Intel Equivalent

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

I'm planning an mITX build for this holiday, and I currently have an AMD cpu.  Intel-wise, I don't really know what's good or bad.  What would be a good equivalent or even upgrade from my 8320?  This is for gaming and web browsing, nothing else.

For my budget, I'm keeping it $500 max, preferably cheaper.  Right now, my build is;

Case; Bitfenix Prodigy / Corsair 250d (undecided) - $80

Mobo; Asus H97I-PLUS - $105

CPU Cooler; Corsair H100i - $100

PSU - Corsair RM 650W - $125

Total - $370

I'd also appreciate a recommendation for a good motherboard, pretty clueless on what to get too.

Just in case someone cares, I know I'm missing a lot of parts too, I'm reusing parts from my current PC too.

Do you live near a Microcenter in your part of Ohio?

If you're not overclocking, don't spend $100 on a CPU Cooler, invest that into a better GPU, CPU, or SSD storage.

For PSU, go for the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W for only $90.  Much better PSU, and less expensive.  RM series is good, but for the same or lower price, you can get much better PSUs, which is why RM series is kinda a no-go.

Here is a rough draft.  I honestly think you will be able to get a lot better performance if you consider selling your current CPU + Motherboard + GPU and reuse all of your other components.  Throw an i5 + best GPU you can afford in there and you're in business.

Probably an i5-4460 is a pretty "equivalent" (I say that loosely) in terms of price, will perform better in Single-Threaded applications, but is not as overclockable as the FX-8320, runs cooler though and uses less power. It will suit perfectly for your gaming and web browsing tasks no problems.

Pretty much any i5 would be a good thing to look at. Are you planning on overclocking?

No overclocking

Hmm.. the 4460 looks good, I'll consider it

I live about 40 minutes away from the nearest one, so i guess.

But this is all i really needed, so thanks so much!

And I dont really think I'm gonna sell my old parts, since I'm either reusing them in my new build or giving them to my younger brother for his build

Gotcha.

Definitely make the 30-40 minute drive and go to Microcenter to pick up your CPU + motherboard.  MC has incredible in-store bundles and you will definitely save some money, even factoring in gas.
