or even 30 on some games like crysis 3

Game dependent in regards to 1440p.

I think you are missing the whole point of the Tech. With GS even 30-40FPS still "feels" smooth "enough". Anyway, a 970 is good match. However, a 980 would be better. 960's will be good enough for 1080. 1440 will require a 980+ though. Generally speaking of course.
