Wrist Rest?

Looking to possibly buy a Ducky or CM Storm keyboard soon, but these do not come with a wrist rest.

I find it strange that these companies that are praised for their anazing build quality, but they don't even include something as simple as a wrist rest.

 

Are wrist rests really optional? Personally, I think I need one to prevent strain on my wrists.

So I'm wondering, how many people actually use a wrist rest? If not, why? Would be interested in your reasons.

 

And how much would one usually cost? I'm not sure because I am so used to having wrist rests included in keyboards. Ex. Logitech and Corsair keyboards

I'm guessing around $30-$40 when bought seperately? Hopefully under $50..

Any recommendations?

Well I've never really used one extensively. I'm sure it helps a little bit but I just don't like the look of a lot of the rests that you can get.

I don't use one. My wrists hover rather than lay on the desk. It makes typing easier. My hands are relatively small, so it's a necessity that my hands stay mobile as I can't reach all the keys on the board if the wrists don't move.

So for me, yes they are optional. 

I would expect a piece of plastic that serves no purpose other than to take strain off your wrists to be $15 or less. $10 specifically. If it's foam or something else, $25 would be my upper limit, and only if it was amazing. $20 would be more reasonable in that situation to me.

US or EU? I'm in US, so I naturally expect things to be cheaper. Do take that into account.

Wow, didn't know so many people to not use a wrist rest. I honestly thought it was a small amount of people who don't use one; wasn't expecting it to be the other way around.

Yupp, was included with my Qpad Mk-50, probably wouldn't have one if it wasn't included.

When I type, my hands hover about the keys, so I don't need a wrist rest when typing. But when I game, especially FPS games, I do use a wrist rest, I have two....one came with a keyboard I'd gotten, the other is a Ducky.

Interesting. I didn't think that looks would have been a reason to not use a wrist rest lol.

Although, I agree that wrist rests that you buy separately just look ugly/goofy and just plain wrong and out of place, but usually I think that the wrist rests that are made for and included with a keyboard actually look pretty good and I end up using them.

I use a cheap one i got from the local office supply store, cant work without it anymore :p

Funny how one reason is because it isn't big enough, while for someone else it's the opposite, that it's too big and takes up too much space. haha

yup because people have different sized hands :P how i use my keyboard my hand sits at the table anyway

If you got good chair with nice soft armrests, you dont nessesserily (man I hate that word) need wrist rest. It helps but I couldn't use keyboard for longer seissions without good armrest.

I keep my chair high and kb low so my wrists don't rest.

LOL....man card revoked!  Seriously though, I do use a separate one now, the Ducky.  Just the right height and not too soft, good quality too.  I find I type faster and longer with it.  I like my MK on my desk and not on a lower under desk tray because I have to type so much during the day for work.  Just get a nice adjustable chair and raise it, I've found this to be the better option in tandem with a wrist rest.
