$700 build help (Re-post)

Go to solution Solved by BrandedUpontheGrave,

Mmm.. That i7 is a hyperthreaded dual core from what I've found, the Pentium K (G3258) is a non hyperthreaded dual core buuut it's clock speed is higher at stock by a whole Ghz!

There are non Z boards from Asus that will do the overclocking with a BIOS update (Asus snuck that one in to their cheaper boards) and it actually OCs quite well even on the stock heatsink (having 2 cores can work wonders) so you could potentially run stock I've heard tales of 4.5 on it... Not sure how valid those are though.

Other than that the only thing you could feasibly snip is that case, everything else (minus the MOBO) is pretty much as low as you could get it.

Budget Build Help

Hey everybody, I will be building a budget build soon and I want your input and possible help "trimming the fat off" of the cost of the components. thank you for your time!

Used for

I will be using the PC for daily gaming, this forum, lots of Youtube, Twitch, Netflix, CAD, and I may do some dual booting and tinkering with Linux.

Template

This is what I would prefer to buy but it will be a template for what to build around.

Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($139.98 @ OutletPC)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($78.59 @ Amazon)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB FTW ACX Video Card  ($109.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($89.98 @ OutletPC)
Monitor: Acer H236HLbid 60Hz 23.0" Monitor  ($139.99 @ Best Buy)
Total: $848.46

  • Case
    • The case is my personal preference, and in my opinion the only "future proof" part of most PCs.
  • Monitor
    • If you can find a similarly priced model with at (or above) 60 Hz refresh rate, low response time, thin bezels, and good build quality; please include in your link.
  • CPU
    • I am going Intel, and this will be my foundation to begin building my pool of knowledge in overclocking.
  • Motherboard
    • I prefer ASUS, mainly for their UEFI and the other quality perks that come with their boards. The ASUS z97-A is competitively priced for the features that come with it.
  • GPU
    • I confess to being a Nvidia fanboy. I'm in the market for Maxwell, and i will be overclocking it. (This is due to change if the next budget allocated GPU by Nvidia proves to be a better option. )

The rest of the build is malleable, so please give your input.

P.S. Please include OS, monitor, PSU, Case, CPU cooler, and storage in your PCPartpicker link.

Thank you.   :D

I Approve of this build. Nice case, i got the Phanteks Enthoo Primo (because reasons) and it is awesome. From the reviews i've read the Phanteks Enthoo Pro is the best full tower chassis on the market for the budget. I recommend it to everyone who wants a full tower chassis.

Only places you could "cut the fat off" are the case.... Expensive case for a budget build is expensive, the MOBO and by getting a 260X though that looks like a remarkably well priced 750 Ti... There usually noticeably pricier than that.

Edit: Maybe look for some cheaper RAM, won't save much though. https://pcpartpicker.com/part/a-data-memory-ax3u1600c4g9dr

I will most likely be purchasing this instead if I can not reduce the price of a the build.
