Help to upgrading PC

I currently have the following parts in my PC:

I3-2120

Gigabyte windforce 7970 GHz

8 gigs of ram

1 TB storage

700w powersupply

I thought about upgrading my video card to the newly released gtx 970. But my CPU Does also kind of need an overhaul. What should I upgrade? Thank you:)

CPU, the 7970 is still a solid gpu. 

 

I'd either try and get a cheap used i5-2500k/2600k/3570k/3770k (non-k if you don't have a Z board)

i5-2500/K would suffice.

 

inb4 Haswell since that upgrade would be too expensive and the performance gain would be pretty minimal.

ditch that i3 go i5 or i7, i7 if you do content creation or budget doesnt matter
