Need help building a new PC

My brother is building a new PC, and I want to double check with someone, because I don't know anything about PC. I don't want my lil bro spending all his money on something that won't work. Here is his list of parts:

 

PC case: Thermaltake case v71

Memory: G.skill Ares low profile F3-16009D

Motherboard:ASRock ATX DDR3 1333 LGA 1150 motherboard

CPU: intel i7-5820K

CPU cooler: RayStorm D5 Photon Rx240

Optical drive: Asus 24x DVD-RW

Storage/mechanical drive (I don't know what it does?): Crucial MX100 512 MG

Power supply: Rosewill Stalion Series 500W

 

Does he need any more parts? Are they compatible? If any thing too add just post

The CPU and motherboard aren't compatible. Here, use this site to figure out if parts are compatible: http://www.pcpartpicker.com You need either an LGA 2011-3 motherboard, or an LGA 1150 CPU.

G.skill Ares low profile F3-16009D, is DDR3 memory which is not compatible with X99 since it uses DDR4, along with that CPU and motherboard. If you're strictly gaming an i5 is the sweet spot. There is a point where you will hit diminishing returns. It makes no sense to buy a 6 core for just gaming. DVD drive is not needed because you can install operating system's from a thumb drive.

OK, I think he still wanted to watch movie or smthin like that so he will want to keep the DVD drive
