Help recovering files

So I went to load up minecraft and it loaded a new version of the game. I went to the folder I saved it in (A:/games/MC) only to find that the whole A:/games folder was erased. I scanned for a virus and found nothing. Later went on to use the free version of easeus and it found everything. But I dont want to pay for it. I have checked everywhere on both drives and havent found them anywhere. The only things left in the A:/games folder is a new minecraft folder. Any ideas how to retrieve all of these files? Can you not recover any data with the free version? What happens when you click the Recover button on the lower right?

Well I went on and used racuva, it found all the files but only recovered 1 of ~250,000

I am just curious how this even happened in the first place. It was just this folder that was touched. I also don't get how these programs see the files but cant recover them

if you updated, it likely moved the folder back to appdata
