Good mobo for I5-4690k

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

MSI Z97 Gaming 5 and MSI Z97-G45 gaming are very good motherboards for the price:

The gaming 5 looks better but both boards share the same features.

You can buy a matching GPU to go along if you feel it!

Both supports SLI, if you have absolutely no intention of ever running 2 graphics cards you can even look at the MSI Z97 Gaming 3 or Z97-G43 Gaming

Here are the specs for all the Z97 models

I have been wondering what motherboard to get to pair with my I5-4690k. My build is black and red and i want to stick with that theme but im not sure about which chipset or brand of motherboard to get. Any opinions will be appreciated.

Asus Ranger, some nice features. Kinda depends on your budget?

You need z97 chipset if your overclocking though.

I live in New Zealand which would mean i would have to pay $230 for it which does seem quite overkill. What are these features you mentioned?

Overkill? How much are other motherboards in New Zealand? Its the bottom of the range Asus ROG  Mobo. The features I have used are Bios Flash (for easy bios updating), auto overclocking (which I used to help do my manual overclock), also has AI suite 3 which does a lot of other automatic calibrations of fans and stuff. Also has RAMDISK on the installation disc which is cool if you have spare RAM.

More info:

If you are gonna build the PC, turn it on and just use the PC then you might just want something basic. If you are gona overclock and tinker with your PC then spend a bit more money.

I dont mean overkill within the ROG line i mean overkill by all motherboards as ROG is quite a premium.

I dunno, I would use the term quality rather than premium for the Ranger. Yes you could spend half the money on a motherboard but you run the risk of something going wrong  on the board and it killing the whole build.

Personally, I won't skimp on mobo or PSU because a cheap one of either could kill everything else. No other parts have that kind of build killing power. This is doubly the case if you are overclocking, which as you have/want a k series is what you plan on doing?
