Im going to make a backup server from an old pc:

specs:

 

amd athlon xp 1500+ @1,78ghz

2gb 300mhz ddr ram

idk what mother board(but it has 2 sata ports)

80gb ide hdd

tplink 1gbit lan card

4port firewire card

wirless n netgear card

some 2port pci sata card

idk what case

 

windows xp

 

i got some harddrives from or old nas's that died:

1 tb segate baracuda

1tb segate pipline

750gb segate pipline

1tb WD Something

 

i'm going to make each hdd a seperate backup hdd one for the couputer documents(750gb)

2 for our films(2x1tb)

and one for the pictures and music collection

 

 

im going to run the program called syncback that syncs al the documents selecten from a specific computer or nas

we got a 3tb wd cloud where all the pictures movies and music is on so i just can select it and sync it every day

 

the other drive im syncing every moth from the computer that needs to be backuped it self.

last month I also backup my PC but I choose CloudBacko Backup Software because it's support Windows, Linux, Mac, UNIX etc and even can combine free cloud storage available from Google Drive, One Drive, and Dropbox into Single large storage. One can store 100TB of cloud storage free of charge. Thanks

Sure you don't want to do something like a RAID 5/RAID 1 with the drives?

Looks awesome :P I'm planning something like this, so it'll be interesting.

One thing that you might want to look at is OpenMediaVault or UnRAID - they use less resources than Windows XP and probably less prone to viruses :P

Remember to be a good citizen and choose a 'best answer' when your problem has been resolved!

(that way people know when a problem's been resolved)

i was just trying it yesterday but the onboard raid controller on my asus a7n8x-deluxe doesnt support the drives so im going to use them in a different a littlebit newer computer 

and 1 in my gaming rig(whitch im going to build soon)
