Hey everyone, I built a computer about a year ago right when all the new stuff was coming out (Very stupid of me I know). So now im looking to upgrade my system with a budget of $870.

Current System:

Motherboard: p67a-c43 (b3)

PSU: Antec 620w Continuous

CPU: i3-2120 (3.3ghz)

CPU cooler: Stock

RAM: 4x4gb of patriot intel extreme masters limited edition (1600mhz)

GPU: Gtx 550 ti

Case: Apevia x-cruiser2

OS: WIndows Ultimate 64-bit

SSD: Corsair 60gb

HDD: WD 500gb

HDD2: Seagate 40gb (I just had this drive lying around and decided to stick in lol)

Note: Right now I play a lot of PC games like BF3, Starcraft II, Men Of War, COH2, ect. I have noticed with BF3 that the coding and the nvidia drivers or the card itself are not working right and are creating purple textures and artifacts when the card shows no sign of overheating or damage. I know the card is fine because every other game is working just fine.

The reason for upgrading is that i wish to max out my settings, start recording gameplay, and do a little bit of 3D work. (Perhaps there is a way I could stick my Quadro 600 into another motherboard with a free slot and switch between my gaming card and workstation card without taking them out?)

So I would like to know what you guys are recommending I should change in my current build to do the things that i want listed above. I am open to saving up $200 more if needed to create a truly badass PC. Thanks for your time.

Edit: Added PSU, sorry about that.

Da Rig : Mobo: Asus M5A97-r2.0 | Cpu: FX-8320 (4.1ghz) Stock cooler | Gpu: Sapphire R9 290 | RAM: 16GB Patriot Intel Extreme (1600mhz...for now >:]) | PSU: Antec 620w continuous | SSD: Corsair Force 60gb (boot) | HDD: WD 500GB 7200rpm  WD Blue 1TB | OS: WIndows 7 Ultimate 64-bit |

first, sell all the crap you want to upgrade
second, I would go on AMD with that budget, as long as you have no biased or fanboy
go with a 8320 or 50, and a good FX990 board
and then go with an AMD videocard, cheap and overclock well, go with an 7870 or 7950, what even the capcity is (don't worry about frame stutter, only happens in crossfire)
you didn't mention your PSU, so just make sure you keep that in mind, get a good PSU that will compensate for your overclocking and is reliable and can handle 100% load for stability test

hope this helped

*EDIT*
please go and get a better, higher capcity hard drive lol

I am open to an AMD system except for the video cards at least i am not fond of them since i would like the Cuda cores for 3D work. However with AMD gpus some friends told me they had some bad experience with their drivers. Also, would it be better to get the new Haswell i7 and get a Gtx 770 instead?

and thank you for the reply ASSASSIN

for the budget, no, and avoid haswell, like seriously, go Z77, no overheating problems here :P

GTX 770 would be a great option, super cheap and it's a walking talking GTX 680

btw, AMD never settle drivers are really changing that, GTX 680 is getting beat by HD 7970

Forget haswell i7--get ivy xeon for a much lower price.

I would actually like to see yours sources on Gtx 680 vs HD 7970. i think ill get the gtx 770 but i do plan on getting another monitor in the future so should i wait for a 3 or 4gb version of the card?

Which xeon would be best for my gaming needs, because i will certianly will be doing more gaming then 3d work. I think I will build another system in the near future specifically for 3D work so a xeon will be on the list for sure.

2GB should suffice when it comes to a single display, 3GB or 4GB doesn't make a HUGE difference at 1080p, on a higher resolution, I would recommend a 4GB version

and I would avoid Xeon, they are clocked low and can bottleneck in-game, if you want something along those lines, go X79 and get a 3930K or a 3960x (which you could never accept on this budget)

This one is basically a 3770 but 0.1ghz slower, 0.2ghz less turbo with no integrated graphics.

The i5 3350p/3470 is sort of where getting a stronger cpu doesn't benefit that much in gaming. The xeon will have no problem with games even when they become more threaded in the future.

Would the Xeon perform better then an i5 3470 or even an i7 3770k when recording and playing bf3 at ultra setting, 64 player server?

EDIT: Recording in 900P single display.

Hard drive speeds are what matter when recording, so get a WD black if you intend on recording a lot, it also depends on what you record with, if you use Dxtory, I would recommend these settings

this will help, and a GTX 770 with a 3470 would do perfectly fine, if my i7 (may I remind you, doesn't improve the preformance that much) with a 680 all OC'd gets me around 80+ frames on ultra, you'll be good

3470 < The Xeon < 3770k

The 3770k is definitely better but is more expensive. For recording or playing video games, it'll pretty much be the same. The only instance in which the 3770k might be worth it is if you're driving more than 2 780's. (Even then, the difference should be very small)

The xeon should have no problem recording the games. Whether you will have trouble or not will depend on your gpu.
