PSU Orientation.

Go to solution Solved by FizzyFantom,

yes, but those are just the stands of the case. The little ridges are sunk completely into the carpet and I can barely fit my middle finger between where the PSU is resting and the carpet.

That being the case, I would suggest you face the PSU fan up so that it is taking air from inside the case. This will lead to it running slightly warmer, but with sufficient airflow through the case this will work just fine. I have run several PSUs like this and they still work ecxellently (besides, all top mounted cases work like this anyway).

So, with my new build I am wondering which way to orient the PSU in my case.

I am re-using the Corsair TX750W PSU and CoolerMaster 690 (II) advanced USB3.0 case and was wondering which way to orient the PSU on the bottom of the case.

It is fairly dusty here, case is on carpet, so I was using it with the PSU Fan facing up and intaking air in from inside the case. Was wondering if for the new build I am getting (4690k, 970GTX) will it be better to place the PSU fan to intake air from the bottom? The case does have dust filters, only thing I am worried about it is the carpet.

Does the bottom where the power supply will sit have vents on the side? It looks like it does.

I circled what I'm referring to.

Ok that is what I was thinking. Should I add or upgrade some of my fans?

Front: 140 x 25mm blue LED fan x 1 / 1200RPM / 19dBA

Rear: 120mm fan x 1 / 1200 RPM / 17dBA

Top: 140 x 25mm fanx1/1200RPM/19dBA(supports120/140mm fan x 2)

Bottom: 120mm fan x 2 (optional)

Left side: 120/140mm fan x 2 (optional)

Right side: 80 x 15mm x 1 (optional)

HDD cage: 120mm fan x 1 (optional)

This is what the case allows, and I only have the stock ones in it currently (the top, front LED one, and rear one) I can add another top fan, one on the left side (The Noctua NH-D14 will block the top one), one on the right, and the bottom fans (not sure what those will be usefull for)

Any fan recommendations that I can replace the stock ones with and possibly add a few more? I read the Noctua ones are really good but they go for $20 (120mm)- $25(140mm) per fan here. Any other alternatives? I guess I will be needing some AF 120mm-140mm fans in the $10-15 range.

Cooler Masters stock fans are pretty good, but if you want fan recommendations take a look at Fractal Design's Silent R2, Be Quiet Silent Wings (Pure Wings and Shadow Wings are also great choices), Corsair AF fans and Noiseblocker eLoops. These are just some fan recommendations, look around and research before you buy any fans.

@FizzyFantom thank you so much!

I will probably stick with stock fans for now, and see how the temps are after the build is done. After that I will re-visit the situation, but thank you for all the help! (only 6more hrs till the store opens! I'm like a kid at christmas waiting for that stupid 970 to be in stock)
