so i cannot do a fresh install of 8.1 on my new rig, i select the usb drive as boot option 1 and then i get the splash screen with the windows logo and the little balls that go around in circles and it either:

 

A. stays in that screen

B. freezes

 

plz help, i formatted the usb using fat32 and created a partition and all that stuff before copying the files from my dvd.

Try the USB drive in another PC.

Its probably just a bad download or a bad copy to the drive.

 

Instead of doing all the processes on your own, use the Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool to mount the ISO.

 

Also if you have a actual product key, you can go get it off of Microsoft's direct download.  It will install a program on the machine that downloads the ISO needed, checks the ISO for corruption once its downloaded, then mounts it to a DVD, USB Drive, or saves it as a ISO, then after that it continues to check the finished product for corruption.  All of this with a simple "Next; Next; I Agree; Sure why not; Done" Interface.

ok, i used the first one that downloads and creates the media for me and nothing, and i also downloaded the .iso file and mounted it using the windows 7 usb/dvd tool and nothing, aswell as using a usb dvd reader using the original 64bit dvd and still nothing, i think ill just call geek squad

Do you have a network cable plugged in while installing?  If you do maybe unplug it until you've finished the install, could be it's having an issue getting an ip or something.
