Core 2 Quad help?

My Core 2 Quad Q8400 isn't stable on it's default clock which is 2.66 Ghz.But when i down-clock it to 2.40 Ghz it becomes stable,but why????

Are you running the latest BIOS? and what are you running the chip on stock voltage?

hm....my bios is upto date....and i am running at default voltage.....but i tried to increase voltage by 5% for default 2.66 Ghz....but after some moment my PC stopped....

Load bios with optimized defaults and check stability after you've done that. If that does nothing, run memtest, to check if memory had suddenly gone bad.

 

P.S. what tools do you use to check system stability? Do you experience BSOD's?

after so many years of use, the decrease of stability clock is expected

and run a 1h of Prime95
