Ok, so basically my parents bought me this desktop back for me in july. At the time I was desperate for a machine as I had a monitor I never used and a laptop that is on its way to the tip. I want to upgrade it so it can be the best it can be as well as perhaps leaving room to canabilise it if I decide to build a new machine in a year or two. Now I would just save up and build a whole new machine after christmas but I dont want to be ungrateful or anything since they just bought it for me.

This build at the moment is this:    miQmmrN.png?1

I want to get a Intel i7 4790k quad core processor, 16gbs of corsair vengance 1600 mhz ddr3 ram, A Samsung 840 EVO 500gb SSD and if needs be a psu upgrade. I want to know if the upgrades would be worth the investment. I mean I would appreciate the 500gb SSD so I dont always worry about if my SSD has enough space but I dont know if i would see a good performance increase from the extra ram and new CPU  or if I would just be best to use this mid range desktop and just build a bigger better build in a year or two.

You won't be needing a new CPU, RAM is your choice

I only suggest selling that 760 for as much as you can, buying 970 and a nice bigger SSD :)

I wasnt even aware that my motherboard supported a 970, now that is added to my list lol. The main reason I want to get a 4790k is that it is overclockable and as it is hyperthreaded would give me better performance in things I tend to dabble in from time to time

If it has PCI express 3, then it can support it (and this mobo has it :)) :)

If you only dabble into in sometimes, then you don't need it :) Only if that becomes your main hobby (i'm guessing you're talking about rendering), and you feel the need to go with 4790k, then go with it, but i don't recommend it!

Save money, and buy a new SSD and, possibly a new GPU (760 is still strong :)), and save your money so you could make a lot bigger upgrade 3-4 CPU generations from now on :)
