Yes, you can set up 'jails' for a Samba (SMB) share.

The ideal setup is to have a Linux based NAS, see this thread for a comprehensive rundown:

I am looking to get a NAS for my house, but is there anyway to have separate accounts. For example, if I have something for work on there I dont want someone to mess with it. Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

Hey there Twaxinator and welcome to Linus Tech Tips forum :)

You have a couple of options:

- you could go for a self-built NAS where you can pick all your parts and build it yourself and use a free NAS software where you can set permissions for each user.

- you could also opt for a pre-built NAS that comes with a user-friendly OS. I could recommend, depending on how much storage space you need, checking out the WD My Cloud series. They are reliable, easy to set up and come with a very easy to use WD My Cloud application that allows you to set the number of users that can access the NAS and allocate them individual space as well as have a shared space with specific permissions for each user. Here's a link to check them out:

Feel free to ask if you have any questions :)
