Go to solution Solved by TheRetiredSlave,

I asked a similar question a while back and got an overwhelming response that I should go with a 980.. I did get the 980, and I don't regret the decision.

Selling your current 780 and getting a 980 seems like the most cost-effective option, especially since you'd need to buy a new PSU to install a second 780..

Edit: I think I misunderstood you.. Your profile says you have a 770, so you're asking if you should buy two NEW 780s or one new 980? (I was under the assumption that you had a 780 and were just thinking of adding a second for SLI)..

Even so, my answer would be the same. Sell your 770 (or keep it around for backup) and buy a 980, especially if you'd be talking about spending ~£600 on two new 780s + a PSU..

Hey,

In the coming weeks I'll have the opportunity to upgrade my system, a new gpu is currently the go to. My question:

Right now on sale in the UK I can pick up an ASUS Direct CU II 780 for £260, 980's current range in price from £450-£490. Is it worth picking up a 980 or should I go SLI 780's? bearing in mind I'd need to pick up a new psu.

Thanks

I don't own a 780 currently, I'm asking because of the sale should I pick up two for a little over the cost of a 980. Or just pick up a 980?

(I edited my previous post when I noticed my mistake)

Technically two 780s is the more powerful solution, but that would only hold true in games that have flawless SLI support. Unfortunately, since SLI can cause issues with frametimings and not all games support SLI very well, it's generally considered better to have one powerful card instead of two weaker ones..

Thanks for the detailed input, I think I'll pick up a 980 and sell my 770 once it arrives. Won't require a new psu either that way. Thanks :)
