What GPU should I get

Go to solution Solved by Katsu-K1L,

Wait and see what amd is offering if they fuck it up get a 980.

I want to get a graphics card some time early next year. I am willing to spend around $450 for one and I will play my games at 4K or 1440p. Right now the R9 290 is only 300 which blew my mind but the next gen AMD cards will probably be better. So should I spring for 2 R9 290s, wait for the 300 series AMD cards, or get a 980 when the prices drop for it a little.

afaik, R9 300 series is slated for first half of 2015. honestly, for 300 dollars the 290 is a steal. I recently got a 2nd 290 GB windforce for crossfire ($300 ncix), and it's using hynix memory to my surprise. the windforce cooler is garbage and I replaced it immediately with kraken G10, but, I wouldn't hold you breath for 390. its at least a half-year away I am betting.

R9 3900XT | Tomahawk B550 | Ventus OC RTX 3090 | Photon 1050W | 32GB DDR4 | TUF GT501 Case | Vizio 4K 50'' HDR

Now I am leaning to getting dual AMD cards , but is getting two R9 290Xs worth it for $120 more than dual R9 290s?

I really don't like dual GPU setups because not everything scales well and sometimes you're limited to only making use of one of the cards anyway, so I would get either a 970 now, or a 980. Smooth 4k gaming is still pushing the limits of single-gpu setups though, while you can handle 1440p just fine with a 980.

Most likely getting the 980 when the price drops but I might wait for 300 series.
