So after dabbling with overclocking my gtx970 ( Gigabyte windforce card ) i have come across a weird issue with it

My card runs fine at stock settings , 1329 boost , 3506 mem , but when i add even the slightest OC , 150mhz on Core and Mem something weird happens

it wont boost up .... , the voltage for the card dosent boost and it stays 324mhz core and 324mhz mem , BUT it will only do this in games , when i run the Valley benchmark it boosts up to what it should be , i found a topic on the Geforce forums about this problem and it seems to be a bios problem with gigabyte cards

Geforce topic here : https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/784294/geforce-900-series/boost-feature-causes-gtx-970-980-instability-in-low-utilisation-situations/1/

Anyone else having the same issue ? anyone know how i can fix it ?

thanks in advance :D

Is there an option to turn boost off?

Primary: Lenovo T61 / Intel Core2Duo T7200 @ 2.2GHz / 3GB DDR2 / NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / Fedora 22 <<<< THE WHITE KNIGHT

Secondary: Compaq Presario CQ56 / AMD V130 @ 2.3GHz / 2GB DDR3 / AMD Radeon HD 4250 / Windows 8.1 <<< THE FORGOTTEN HERO

Anyone ?

There's a few ways to go about this, but you should start with the simplest.

Go into NVIDIA Control Panel. Select, "Manage 3D settings." Scroll down to, "Power management mode." Select "Prefer maximum performance."

See if that changes anything.

Yes i do

Ok, then it looks like you are going to have to try flashing your Bios (unless you want to RMA your card). First you need to save your stock Bios just in case anything goes wrong. Download GPU-Z, open it up. On the line that says BIOS Version. All the way to the right is a little icon with a green arrow. Click that, and click "Save to file." That will save your default Bios.

Then download this Bios

In each download you'll find:

1. mbt.nvflash.zip - contains Naennon's Maxwell BIOS Tweaker and JoeDirt's modded NVFlash for flashing unsigned BIOS.

2. The original BIOS that was used for modding.

3. The NOLIMITSv2 BIOS for that specific card (I would use this version).

Flash guide:

1. Unpack both zips to the same folder.

2. Right click "Computer" and to go Manage. Computer Manager opens.

3. Click Device Manager

4. Expand Display Adapters

5. Right click your GTX980/970 and Disable it (After disabling it will revert to basic Microsoft driver [your monitor may go to black for a moment] so you're good to go for flashing process.).

6. Start -> run -> cmd

7. Navigate to your nvflash folder: cd\folder\path\here\

8. If you are flashing a non-reference bios simply type nvflash

-> nvflash GM204-GIGABYTEG1980-NOLIMITSv3.rom

9. If you're flashing a reference bios and you need a PCI DeviceID Override, add -6 after nvflash and before your filename.

-> nvflash -6 GM204-REFERENCE-EVGA980SCACX-NOLIMITSv4.rom

To flash another bios for the same circuit board, first uninstall your video driver, then run:

nvflash -6

10. Re-enable your display driver in Device Manger

11. Reboot

If you have more than one card and want to flash a specific one:

nvflash --list

Look at the index number (0, 1, 2, 3) and then

nvflash -6 --index
