Using old PC as game server?

So I just built a new PC, and seeing as how my old one still has pretty good specs, I'd like to use it for hosting servers for different games for me and my friends to play on, such as Minecraft. My original plan is to set it up like a normal PC with Windows 7 and just run the servers. But I'm sure there's a better way of doing it, so I can access the server computer with my main PC. I just have no idea how to do that.

I have 50 mb/s upload. I just want a way of accessing the server from my main PC.

Slap Ubuntu Server on it and you can then SSH into it.
