Hey everyone!

I'm having a few teething problems with my new PC build!.

1:) On some games (Bioshock infinite) it seems like the PSU under loads starts making a fast paced clicking noise same issue as this person had! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJa1uVUayEc

2:) Also I was in the middle of playing dishonored when the computer decided to power off and restart. I'm not totally sure why yet though. PSU related or maybe the CPU got to hot as I am using a standard cooler ATM.

Spec:

Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit

Intel I5 4670K

Gigabyte GTX 970

Corsair CX750

Corsair vengence 1600 16GB

Asus Maxiumus VII Hero

Standard Cooling

Any insight on my issues would be a great help to me. Should I go looking for a new PSU if so what should I get? I dont want to be spending more than £80 a PSU if I can help it. Should I buy a 750RM or stay away from corsair!

Thanks for any help!

1) Sounds like coil whine, which is normal (albeit annoying). (can't watch the video, so, just guessing bsaed on your description). Try to RMA it, if that doesn't solve the issue...Then an EVGA G2 750w is an excellent psu, and is relatively cheap.

2)

Have you overclocked at all?

What are your cpu and gpu temps?

Have you updated to all the latest drivers?

It's possible that this could be due to "dirty", or unstable power being fed to it. adding a UPS in line might help the issue.

These sound like PSU issues, and seeing that you have a CX, I'm not surprised at all. Don't get an RM and stay away from Corsair. Get a good power supply from a reputable company like Super Flower or Seasonic.

There is no overclocking in place although when stress testing the cpu with prime95 the fan struggles to keep the temp down and hits just under 100 C. So that could possibly be an issue.

Graphics card is keeping to fairly low temperature when I checked' so I don't think that is an issue.

From reading on the internet corsair PSU's are generally crap. So it looks like i'm going to be buying myself a new one.
