So, going over my notes, they make no sense....

Do ions get bigger or smaller when they lose/gain electrons?

across the board, if the number of protons is held constant, more electrons increase size due to electron-electron repulsion and then increase size a huge amount if the valence electron level changes.

Cations have a positive charge because they lose electrons, anions have a negative charge because they gain electrons.
