Will This PC Work?

Go to solution Solved by brob,

@BlenderDude,

A Crossfire bridge is not necessary with R9 290 gpu, nor with any current generation of AMD CrossfireX capable gpu.

I would suggest a different motherboard, one that has onboard dual band a/b/g/n/ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. The board comes with 4 SATA cables and WiFi antennas. I would also recommend a memory kit with better timings. CL10 is sub-optimal for DDR3-1600. A bit can be saved going with a Crucial ssd. It also avoids a current slow write issue with some EVO drives. The best value in 850W psu is currently the EVGA 220-G2-0850-XR. It is an excellent unit at a very competitive price. IPS monitors have better color reproduction and wider viewing angles.

Hello,

This will be my very first PC build and I want to be sure that I am not buying something that I do not require/something that I am missing? I plan on getting all these parts from Amazon. This computer will be used for running games preferably on max settings. I only use one monitor for gaming and I don't feel 4k is necessary so 1080p is fine. Here is the list of parts:

Case: Cooler Master Trooper (Rev. 2) - Full Tower Gaming Computer Case with Windowed Side Panel and Carrying Handle

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) (BX80646I74790K)

CPU Cooler (Closed Circuit H20): Corsair Hydro Series Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler H100i

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10)

Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO Z97 ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards MAXIMUS VII HERO

GPU(x2, I plan on doing CrossFire. Is this a good graphics card to do so?): ASUS Graphics Cards R9290-DC2OC-4GD5

Hard Drives (This may seem small but I really don't need that much space): Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE500BW

Power Supply: Xion High Performance 1000 Watt ATX Power Supply XON-1000P14F

Network: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter,2.4GHz 450Mbps/5Ghz 450Mbps, Include Low-profile Bracket

Other Misc Parts/Software:

Monoprice 18-Inch SATA III 6.0 Gbps Cable with Locking Latch and 1 x 90-Degree Plug (108783)

- Anker® CG100 8200 DPI High Precision Programmable Laser Gaming Mouse for PC, 9 Programmable Buttons, Weight Tuning Cartridges, Omron Micro Switches

Microsoft Windows 8.1 - Full Version

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound 3.5 Grams

- XFX, Crossfire Bridge

- (x2 for graphics cards) SquareTrade 3-Year PC Peripherals Protection Plan ($250-$300)

Samsung 23.6-Inch Wide Viewing Angle LED Monitor (S24D390HL)

Will this setup work fine? I am really nervous cause it is a lot of money and I don't want to get it all and then test it and it doesn't work. This community seems nice so I hope you will be willing to help!

    Thanks so much!

SATA cables come with the motherboard, so you don't need to buy one, same with the crossfire bridges.

Also the get a power supply from a trusted brand like Corsair, EVGA, Silverstone etc. You should only need about 800w max

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

*If I say something that seems offensive, please don't take it seriously, it was most likely meant as a joke/sarcastically*

It will all work as far as I can tell, but unless you do a lot of streaming or rendering I would just get a 4690K, then put the money into a 980.

Also, get an EVGA SuperNOVA or SeaSonic or Corsair for the PSU.

EDIT: Just saw you plan on going CFX, so disregard my comment about the GPU. Get a decent 750 watt PSU then.

Alright, I removed the SATA cables from the cart and changed the power supply to this: EVGA Supernova 850 B2 Power Supply 80PLUS Bronze Certified 850W ATX Power Supply with ATX12V 110-B2-0850-V1

Does it seem okay?

I also do streaming so that's why I have the 4790

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
