Intel stock cooler problems

So my H220 decided to die the day after I got a new 4790k...Swiftech you troll.

So that leaves me with just the stock heatsink to use. I installed it properly with the thermal paste that comes preapplied, made sure all the pins clicked and are completely through the Mobo, etc. The problem is the temperatures; I'm at about 40c in the bios, and pushing high 50s idling on the desktop. I don't even want to know what load temps are and I'm not even going to test it on my new CPU as I can assume they'd be 80c+.

Any tips? Or are these temperatures normal for the crappy stock cooler?

Again, my CPU is the 4790k @ stock with a z97 hero for the Mobo.

Edit: oh yeah, and my case is the Fractal Design Arc Midi R2, so airflow shouldn't be the issue.

Thanks in advance!

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?

Depending on your ambient temperature those temps are normal and not far off what I got when using it on my 3570k. You don't need to worry though, unless your ambient temps are abnormally high the cooler will keep your chip within safe operating temperatures.

50C is pretty much normal with stock cooler. And you won't overheat under load. The stock cooler is made to keep CPUs cool while under stock clocks. The temps might be higher than what you've used to but not over 85C still.
