Water cleaning cpu heatsink fins?

I am about to clean my computer, and i was wondering if it was safe to clean the cpu heatssink (without the fan) in water? the fins are quite dusty and i cant seem to get the dust out. I have an air compressor in the garage but it's too noisy, i dont have a can of air either so :/

 

thoughts?

You can clean it with water. Just be sure to allow it to completely dry before reinstalling the heatsink and booting the computer.

I would use the compressed air because you need to clean of the water with air then anyways. (or wait a bit to dry it)

Also air works way better i think.

Water works 100% Make sure however that it's COMPLETELY dry before reinstalling it (or at least setting power to it) since this could short circuit the system AKA kill it.

yes ive done it, its alot cleaner now :) i dried it for 6 hours
