 Hello everyone, so after watching this video (

) and for a purpose, its rather shocking to say the least. I currently own a (Quad-Channel 1600Mhz DDR3 G.Skill RipjawZ 32Gb RAM) and im certainly lost with it. The only editing program i use is photoshop (which defenitly wont use even 8Gb of RAM....) and i use it for fun (Metro Redux,Shadow of Mordor, etc...). So what im trying to ask here is if after purchasing such a high amount of RAM, and watching the video it kinda points out that either you buy 16Gb for standard motherboards and 64Gb for outstanding motherboards. Of course outstanding and standard is irrelevant since most are outstanding be it <400$ or 250$> Mobos, but certainly that i never tought the difference between (32-64Gb RAM) would be of nearly 25%-35% over the 32Gb. It also depends on the RAM specificly (DDR3-DDR4), but i cant see the advantage of getting 32 over 64 right now... If anyone can tell me what you think about this subject it would be good. The monetary issue is in cause here obviously since 32Gb can be 250$ and 64Gb 400$, but its certainly uncomfortable to know this fact. Thank you all and leave your comments and toughts.  -_-

I'm slightly confused as to what you're asking, are you wondering what scenarios call for more than 16GB of RAM (or 8GB)?

Well sorry im actually asking what exactly should be the option (Waste a lot on a motherboard and cpu+ buying a 64Gb of ram kit, or waste some money on a great motherboard and cpu+32Gb of ram kit) This video said that buying 32Gb is useless, and that 64Gb actually scales much better from 16Gb to 64Gb rather than 16Gb to 32Gb.

For what you're doing, 16GB and z97

You don't need over 8 GB for pretty much anything. If you do hardcore stuff like compiling the Android kernel, then you will need at least 16 GB. Tho 16 GB is where I draw the limit, anything above that is just stupid ridiculous unless you know how to effectively utilize it all. I wouldn't buy a kit above 16 GB unless you know for sure that the software you use requires it.

It would depend on you're doing. If you're only using 8GB at max, it's a waste of money to go with 32GB or 64GB. 16GB would make much more sense.

Well thank you everyone for your comments, but right now (With what i have) how should i fully utilise my system memory? 32Gb and the OS uses 10% currently, so id be looking forward a way to use it completely. Any programs or software that you recommend for over 80% usage? Something creative perhaps that will be helpful later would be good :D.

Google chrome ;)

With 700 Tabs opened that are broadcasting a signal into deep space to reach the Hubble telescope and the intellegent species that are currently looking for an answer, while scrambling the worlds antennas which deduce the satellites have de-orbited to produce a systematical failure to every radio operator, television and whatever else military streaming, while maintining a youtube video about goku going ssj...... sounds good to me, but no :)

Say that to the future, im pretty sure something will come up that makes 16Gb and 24Gb useless as wind. If your thinking that will only happen until DDR6 comes out then its mostlikely so, but then again theres got to be something that will make even your 256Gb ram computer cry for more. But if there isnt anything to come up with... ill just search deeper then  <_< .

But just buy more RAM in the future then, you will save money.

Well by the time 1GB of RAM wasn't enough the kinds of systems that used 1GB of RAM (we're talking mainstream) were also basically trash at that point (Netburst).

For mainstream 2GB is still "enough" (Windows 8 runs very well on 2GB) and 4GB is really all you need.

For amateur content creation 8GB is what you should target, if you're doing this and making content daily 16GB. If this is pro work that you make revenue from you should be looking at 32GB.

64GB is not really needed for consumer grade stuff. If the sole purpose of a machine is to output video, 3D model etc as a profession (like Edzels PC) then you can look at 64GB.

But yes, there will never "be enough RAM". Back to the famous "640K of RAM is all you'll ever need" was clearly false (although taken out of context/poorly worded).

If you have waaay more RAM than you need, just sell it off or start hosting minecraft servers for people :P

And from a gaming perspective:

Most games won't even use 4GB INCLUDING windows 8 and normal background applications (MSI afterburner, fraps, ventrilo etc...)

some games will indeed go up to as high as 5GB (Watchdogs, Battlefield 4) but most other games (at least on my system) when i monitor

RAM usage it's most of the time under 4GB...

you are not supposed to feel the need to fill your RAM...i think that is a pretty wierd way to see things BTW...

and i don't know of anything on the consumer market that ''can make use'' of more than 32GB...

and i don't know of any software that can't properly run on a machine with 8GB of RAM.

So it will be A LONG WAY before anything more than 32GB will ever be useful to have for most users.
