Well seeing that AMD is relaunching 290X with 8GB for around $700, I'm guessing Nvidia would need to stay around that price range

600 pounds is over $900. The 980 is nowhere near $900.

Prices vary in different countries, I'm working with prices in the UK. 

 

Normal 980s average around £450 here, or around $720 US. Whereas you can buy a 980 in the US for around $560 US, or around £350. Pretty big differences.
