every week or so i find a new adware extension in chrome and have to remove it. i end up having to manually remove it, run adwcleaner and malwarebytes, and several other scanners on a weekly basis.  whats weird is that i really dont browse the web much. 95% of what i go to is reddit and LTT(which is actually where i first notice it when it shows up).  where the hell is it all coming from.

I would try downloading Comodo Cleaning Essentials. It has a decent malware scanner but what I really like about it, is that it will show you a full list of running programs, startup programs, dlls, all kinds of goodies. It will even analyze them for you against their database. I've used it several times to pull a program that was redownloading itself from Startup. Worth a shot.

ill try that when i get home.  i used to use comodo and it was pretty good. maybe ill just get an actual antivirus other than the default one for win8.

i also havent gotten around to running combofix yet which may help

To prevent future issues, I suggest installing adblock and NOT clicking 'yes' when something tells you java is out of date. I can't tell you how often I have to go to my cousin's house and spend hours fixing this issue because their mom is potato at internet. 

 

In all seriousness though, is it a browser hijacker? Does it change your homepage to something like safesearch?

okay, since no one is suggesting these, and i don't feel like typing a novel and finding links, i am going to dropbox link my tools folder.

Use Revo to uninstall shady shit, and since you have already used ADWCleaner, i can only assume you have the most basic of knowledge in computers, and can right click;Run as admin on the rest of the tools.

Reset browsers, update windows and all apps, and create a system restore and label it something.
That way, if this happens again, you can undo it easily.


Side note: On the (no offence) fairly decent chance you have no idea what you are doing, don't even touch HijackThis,

i actually do have a fair bit of computer knowlage and have used HijackThis a few times in the past I'll probly give it a shot if this crap shows up again.  normally im great with viruses and crap like that, and im able to keep it gone for a full week before it comes back, its just driving me crazy that it keeps coming back. and the only shady things that show up in Revo are WinPcap and Cain&Abel.

For now ive installed an actual antivirus other than windows by itself (NOD32) which has actually picked up a few things nothing else has so hopefully that'll do it.

If it is reoccurring adware, then you are never fully removing it.

Run each of those tools in safe mode with networking and reset your browsers (all of them).

yeah ive been trying to figure out whats actually causing it. since each time, it comes back as a different name. which is whats been throwing me off. if it was the same thing each time i'd know what i was doing wrong.  but its different. i'll have to try safemode when i get off work.

Safesearch likes to do this thing where it makes it your default homepage without actually using any adware to do so. Next time you are fighting it, right after you do your virus scan and BEFORE you open up your browser, right click the browser shortcut, go to properties, and click on the shortcut tab. Chrome should have Target set to something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

If there is anything after .exe" then delete it, this is how safesearch is getting around your virus scans.

yea i always consider that to be a last resort, i actually rage at people who suggest that as a first option(check my post history lol).   i checked out your tools, and they are basically all the ones ive already used. i just need try a few in safemode to see if that'll do it. i also havent seen it since i scanned with an actual antivirus. however like i mentioned, it takes a few days to reappear so ill post back if it pops up again. until then ill just mark as solved.

edge doesnt run on chrome, and it wouldnt help honestly since the problem is actual adware, that still runs despite that.

i currently use adblockplus and ghostery though.
