I just got my new prebuilt gaming pc but I have had a lot of problems with software. Windows crashes about once a day and applications like steam also freeze regularly. How can I fix this. If I need to re-install windows please tell me how to do so without a dvd drive

Thanks

Try using BlueScreenView. A nifty piece of software that opens the dump file for you without much interaction from you and tells you what module caused the crash.

My system also blue screened once per day. I tracked the problem to the ATI driver (i have a MSI 280X). I removed my video card, and currenty i'm running on the onboard graphics, without Bluescreens for a week now ...

.. I hope I have time soon to downgrade to windows 7 ...

I had a lot of problems with windows 8.1 crashing too. I was getting a blue screen about 5 times per hour and it got to the point were it was just unusable. I was getting errors to do with every thing and I couldn't possibly find the source of them all.

I had some spare cash so I went out and bought myself a SSD, loaded a fresh version of windows onto it and everything works fine now. I'm still not sure what was wrong with it, Because it was a fresh install of windows so I'm guessing something went wrong along the ride. Yes I recommend just to reset your computer, It's not too difficult. Just install windows off a USB stick.

If you have trouble again, then you have hardware problems so'll you'll need to get it tested maybe at a local computer store or send it back to where you got it from.

Hope I can help :)

Let's go over the basics.

-> If you have a BSODs, what error code you get? You can use this free software: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html, to view previous BSOD error message.

-> Test your memory with MemTest86 Free, and also Windows Memory tester. The more memory you have, the slower the process, sadly.

-> Use FurMark (free) to stress test your GPU. This won't test all the features of your graphics card which could cause the system stability issues, but simply if its ale to handle high load for a while.

-> Use Prime95 to stress test the CPU.

bluescreenview shows nothing and every other test didn'tcause it to crash?
