Bottle Necked 780?

Go to solution Solved by Rob the Simer,

I had a similar problem when I went from a GTX 670 to a GTX 770. Turns out it was my MOBO that needed the update, once I updated the firmware everything worked great. Something to due with the PCIe 3.0 compared to 2.0 and how the 700 series takes advantage of it. Try that out and let us know.

I have just moved from a GTX 550ti to a GTX 780. I plugged it in and couldnt wait ti start playing games at higher settings!. Before I swapped out the GPU I wrote down some FPS marks. After I installed the GPU I recieved no improvement, and in the worst case I dropped FPS. I have no idea why this is happening.

here are my system specs:

Intel i7 4790

Corsair H80i

MSI Z87M Micro Motherboard

8 GB of Corsair Deliminator Platinum Ram

Corsair RM 850W PSU

2 Samsung 840 120GB SSD's in Raid 0

All inside the Silverstone FT03

In the biggest example (please don't make fun of me for this) but in Minecraft I went from 60 FPS on the GTX 550ti, to the 30 FPS!!!!! ON THE GTX 780!?!?!? How is this possible, all other games keep the same frame rates/drop below the 550ti rates. All games settings have remained the same, I havent even cranked up the settings from the 550ti.

It is worth noting that this is a pre-owned GPU I bought here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CW7VZNK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Any help is apreciated

They are set to on

To what? The reason why I'm asking is because Adaptive V-Sync(half refresh) will cause your targeted frame rate to be half of what your display it. Bear in mind, I'm talking about the one that says half refresh. Not the regular one.

Use Display Driver Uninstaller, follow all the directions including booting into safe mode. Then download and install a fresh copy of the most recent Non-beta driver via Nvidia.com. Modern intel chips don't bottleneck anything really, especially a single GPU.

The setting "Vertical sync: on" the other options are ON/OFF/Adaptive/Half Refresh

Have you tried running something gpu intensive and checked if the gpu is doing anything? Gpu's these days underclock themselves when idle to save power and energy. Check the core clock when playing a game or running a benchmark like valley or something to see if it actually goes up.
