Wireless headset recommendation

Ok, first off I know next to nothing about audio, nor have I ever had an amazing experience with it. My cheap $10 headset just broke so I am in the market for a real headset. I have been trying to figure out what I would want by watching Linus's videos and reading through forums, but I haven't found anything that fits my needs exactly.

I'm looking in the price range of the G930 or Corsair Vengeance 2000, however if spending an extra $50 is what I need to do then that's ok too.

From what I've been reading the biggest issue with wireless headsets in this price range is the build quality, if I can afford a headset with better build quality I'm happy to pay the extra money, I really don't want to go and spend on a headset that is just going to break after a few months.

I will be using the headset mostly for Youtube, movies etc. but will also be using them for casual gaming and talking online.

So yeah, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

virtual 7.1 is reverb. it is compensation for a headphone that lacks soundstage or accuracy. to me it lessens positional audio ques.

I don't use my vengeance 2K for movies but only for when I want stupid bass

Alright, that clears some stuff up, thank you. Are there quality wireless headsets that aren't just good for gaming, and if so, any in my price range?

Somewhat below your pricerange is the SoundBlaster X-Fi Tactic 3D Wrath Wireless from Creative. Techradar said that it has better sound quality than the 2000H. I am not in the position to confirm that statement, but I am using them right now. I have included the link to the techradar article.

- Wireless

- Adjustable volume from the headset

- Microphone (removable)

- Mac compatible (sound support, but some software features don't work)

It has support for virtual 7.1 with two 50mm drivers (with THX enhancements for movies), it has a metal core headband and hinging earcups with red lighting effects. The software does a bunch of stuff, such as an equalizer, including a custom one, voice manipulations to annoy your friends, soundprofiles for games and many many more things I'll never ever use. I encourage you to find these features yourself, because I am just as qualified to talk about it as any other guy.

My major complaint with this thing is that it's somewhat tight, and its ability to dub as earmuffs, making my ears a bit too warm. The memory foam is very quick to retract, making it somewhat uncomfortable.

So yeah, I like them a lot, the wireless is a fantastic thing to have. I am not an audiophile of any kind, however, so I'm just gonna have to trust techradar on the audio quality, and I don't really trust techradar that much. :(

That's a shame about the comfort, other than that they sound pretty good. I particularly like that it apparently doesn't have a hiss to it; I have used a friends wired headphones that do hiss and it wasn't the most pleasant of things

what do you mean when you say good for youtube and movies?

the V2K was awesome for action movies with big explosions and booming stuff but for positional stuff like this scene in Xmen 2 it was lacking. things going left and right are noticeable but if I watch that scene with a monitor style headphone it feels like I point out sounds precisely 30 degrees right 10 degrees up, 45 degrees to my rear left then gunshots that go thru me.

when I first got the V2K I thought it was absurd that people were spending over $20 on headphones I thought my cheap sony behind the head phones were awesome. my first experience with the V2K was jaw dropping I thought it was the pinnacle in sound production, nothing could top it.....then I went to headfi and I learned, then I spent and spent and spent.

I still use the V2K it is in rotation for beyond just communications, did I regret my investment? no.

in the end it is a headset it is not the ultimate in sound but it does excel in convenience. the V2K has 50mm drivers compared to the G930's 40mm which is why I chose it over the latter

I just mean not aimed at gamers, all I'm finding are headsets aimed towards gamers, which makes sense, not many other situations where you need a mic attached I guess... I suppose it's kind of a silly question, I just don't want to go and buy an expensive (to me) headset that has extreme bass or something and makes general use impractical.

before I got an ear education I thought they were the best thing in the world..and I was one happy dude with stupid ears using the V2K for everything music youtube and movies

the saving grace here is that t V2K responds to the equalizer really well if you don't educate your ears you will be happy.

Sounds good, perhaps in the future I will educate my ears, but for now it sounds like what I want is the V2K. Thank you for your help

Aphexx (or anyone with the V2K), I have been reading about the V2K and there are a few people complaining about the headset making a slight hissing sound when the mic is being used. Can you tell me if you experience this with yours?

no hissing that I've noticed.

I'm starting to think that for the versatility you are looking for and everything I really think you should just give up on wireless headset and just go for wired quality headphones.

Yeah, when I game, I game from the couch or bed quite often, and because I have "uneducated" ears, I don't think I have massive expectations for sound quality. I read more about the apparent hissing issue that some people have with the headset and it sounds like it is just microphone loop-back when then are using the mic. If it is, that doesn't bother me because if I'm using the mic, there will be sound covering it up. I was more concerned about when I have no sound going, in which case I wouldn't be using the microphone anyway so.... I am still thinking the V2K is the way to go for me.

i would recommend getting a wired headset, a turtlebeach or something like that. the extra money you save on no wireless will go back into sound quality.

if you MUST have wireless then something by sennheiser that's in your price range.

I game from the couch so I think wireless is my only option. I don't have very high expectations for sound quality anyway as I have only ever listened to cheap speakers. Perhaps for my next headset I will get something more expensive, but for now I don't feel that I would need it.
