HI everyone, I have been building a computer for my father, but I have been stuck on the mobo and CPU. Ideally I would have him get a  i5-3570k and ASUS P8Z77, but I wanted to try and save him some money but Im not sure really on where to step down to. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

What's the budget? Usage?

So he will be using this for some pretty everyday things. There are a few programs that he will be using which include Quicken Tax, Rod DNA (a fly fishing rod making program) and Sketch Up 8. Other than that he will be using it for things like music, pictures and excel/word stuff. As far as budget goes $250 to $300 for both the Mobo and CPU.

Lol, i5-3570k and the P8Z77 for everyday tasks... Seems legit much

Don't waste your money.

Grab a ASRock FM2A85X-ITX with the new AMD A10-6800k or the A10-5800k, with a single 8GB stick of 1866mhz RAM, a Samsung 840 SSD for boot drive and a Seagate Barracuda 1.0TB/2.0TB [Don't grab the 500GB/1.5GB variants] for data. Do note that this will be an APU based system so in case the pc is ever used for gaming it can at least push medium/high settings satisfactorily(Not on games like Crysis 3 of course, but you get the idea).
