Not sure if there are any watercooling specific parts that have a valve on the actual T-fitting, but I think it'd be ideal if the flow was stopped at the T, and not above the T, as some water might want to flow upwards the little bit that it can, and might cause a flow restriction in that spot.

once the pump is right after the res (im assuming its a pump/res combo)

also i would flip around the rad at the top...for a shorter tube run  but idk your case so it may not work

Can't you just get another top for the reservoir? (But your plan should work)

No i meant a replacement for the top of your reservoir that only got one hole on it. There is a high chance, that you can just screw another top on your res. Many reservoirs have different options for top and bottom ports.

The valve you want at the top is actually called a drain port.
